Flying to start a new life and live in Dubai for the foreseeable future was always going to be exciting, but when BTR was given the chance to fly Business Class with Emirates on the Airbus A380 this travel expereince became even more memorable......and a tad addictive.
BTR plans to provide its readers with an insight to just how good business class is (why it costs so much) and also some of the tricks that "may" help your cause towards a cheeky upgrade at the airport.
With 3 full suitcases of our life I arrived at London Heathrow with Mrs BTR excited for our flight to Dubai, but also adamant I would try and blag us an upgrade to make the start of lives in Dubai even better. When checking into Emirates at LHR I kindly informed the desk attendant that "We were moving to Dubai......Had upcoming flights with Emirates.........Were just married, blah blah" , but unfortunately she informed me that an upgrade would cost £375 each - which I now know would be well wroth it. Me and Mrs BTR opted not to pay for the upgrade, but I was upset in which the desk attendent had been quite moody and brushed off my request with such shame......
.........So, we walked away and I saw the "Customer Services Desk" at the end of the check in line and whilst Mrs BTR popped to the loo I went to speak to the much friendlier member of staff - even though Mrs BTR had said dont be so silly and clearly it wasnt going to happen. WELL......If you dont ask, you dont get. The member of staff listened to me, made a couple of phone calls, wasn't sure if she could do anything as i was in shorts (they were smart chinos at least) but informed me to keep an eye on my Emirates app whilst in the shops.
To our delight, whilst eating some breakfast in departures I checked my Emirates app to find that my seat had been changed to business class. We made our way to the Emirates lounge, but this was being refurbished at the time and were guided to use the BA lounge instead.
We boarded the double decker Airbus A380 and from the moment we were on the plane an easyjet flight to Malaga was never quite going to cut it from now on!!
Champagne was provided when we arrived at our seats and throughout the flight the food and drink was exceptional - especially as were at 35,000ft in the sky.
Food and Drinks - The food throughout the flight was excellent, and we were provided with a three course meal with champagne and wine. In addition to this we were able to walk through the cabin and help oursleves to drinks and snacks from the in flight bar at the back of the plane. The service of drinks from staff was excellent and if at any point my drink was low I was able to easily request to be topped up.
Seat and Entertainment - The seats on the A380 Business Class Emirates are the best i have experienced and set a benchmark for higher class flying. The seat was able to lay down flat, providing an excellent opportunity to slepp comfotably. The entertainment provided Emirates ICE system was also excellent, worked efficiently (not always the case of flights) and had a range of new films.
Overview - The couple of thousand quid that this flight from LHR to DXB is going to be slightly too much for most of us, but if the option to upgrade at the aiport is availble then grab it because it is definately worth it.
BTR Expert Tip - if at first you dont success, try and try again.
